Tilt Latch
A tilt latch holds the top of a sash securely in the window frame while allowing the sash to tilt inward for cleaning or service.
Types of Tilt Latches
Thumb-button tilt latches: Commonly located at the top corners of the sash. Sliding the buttons retracts the latches.
Integrated tilt systems: On some newer windows, the tilt mechanism is incorporated into the window lock, reducing visible hardware.
What Happens When One Breaks?
A broken tilt latch can allow the top of the sash to feel loose or prevent it from being secured properly. Traditional latches are often replaceable, while integrated systems may require manufacturer-specific parts.
